Apply for exchange of a foreign driving license.
If you want to apply for exchange of your foreign driving license for a Danish driving license, you must contact an optional Citizen Service in one of the country's municipalities. If you are a resident of Amager/Ørestaden, it may be an advantage to use Tårnby Municipality.

- If your driving license was not issued in the Faroe Islands, Greenland or an EU or EEA country, a medical certificate must be attached. The medical certificate can be obtained from your own doctor.
Please note that the municipality has the option of requiring a translation of your driving license in connection with an exchange case.
If the driving license is issued in Latin letters, or it is a driving license from an EU or EEA country, a translation will not generally be necessary.
The translation must be carried out by a public authority or an organization authorized to do so in the issuing country.
Once the application has been created at the municipality, it will take some time for it to be approved. When this happens, you are ready for the next step.

Theory Practice and Test.
You will now start practicing theory. This is done via the website that you will receive a login for when purchasing the package.
You must first start by watching and learning the theory, I suggest that you go through the page a little and get an overview of what the options are.
There will be video lessons - learning about signs - theory in picture form and theory tests.
A theory test can be ordered for you as soon as your application is approved and this is something your driving instructor does. It is important that you set aside 2-3 weeks to get ready.
The theory test is digital and therefore you must practice digital theory tests that will be close to the test you will get for the theory test. Practice intensely and when you are down to an average of 2-3 mistakes per test then you are ready. It is important that you take the test called 43 a few times, as it contains a lot of questions about the rules.
The theory test is held on Amager close to the airport. When your test is booked, you will be notified by your driving instructor and sent a note so you can see where and when to show up.
You must bring the following to your theory test.
Application P23 - passport - health insurance card
The test consists of 25 photos, of which at least 20 must be correct. This means a maximum of 5 photo errors.
If you pass, your driving instructor can order the practical test.
If you do not pass, you must practice more and a test fee must be paid to the Danish Road Traffic Authority so that your driving instructor can book a new test.
You will receive an error message in your e-boks.
Driving lessons and Practical Test.
Once you have passed your theory test, we will need to book your practical driving test.
Once it is booked and you have confirmed that you can take the test on that date, we will need to book a time to drive so that I can see if you are ready for the test.
I recommend that you book at least 2 drives of 2x45 min so that we are sure that we have enough time to prepare you. The package includes 1 drive of 2x45 min. In the price list you can see what extra driving lessons cost.
What you focus on for a practical test is the following:
- Show that you know the traffic rules.
- Show that you can orient yourself in your mirrors and the blind spot when positioning, lane & merging as well as right & left turns.
- Show that you drive appropriately and with full control over your maneuvers.
- Show that you read the traffic and drive safely.
On the actual driving test day, we meet 45 minutes before the test starts and have a warm-up drive, which is included in the package.
Before the test starts, you must present your application - passport - health insurance card so that the test expert can make sure that the papers are in order.
You will then be asked 2-3 questions about the car you are driving and you must therefore have practiced the car's technique. You will receive a video of me towards the driving test so that you can practice at home, and I will also review the brief with you on the car itself.
The test expert will then briefly go through how he or she will instruct in traffic during the drive.
The drive itself must last a minimum of 25 minutes and can last up to 30-35 minutes depending on the traffic. When you return to the test site, he or she will tell you whether you have passed or failed.
If you have passed, you will receive a temporary driving license that is valid for up to 3 months and your physical driving license will be sent to your address.
If you fail, the test expert will tell you which mistakes you made that resulted in you failing and a failure slip will be sent to your e-box. Before a new practical test can be booked, a test fee must be paid to the Danish Road Traffic Authority.
